Sabahattin Balıkçı
WHAT: Traditional Fish Restaurant
This is one of my favourite fish restaurants in Istanbul and that is odd too for someone who is drawn to sea-view terraces by nature, as this happens to be one of the only fish restaurants with absolutely no view! However its old city location isn't without its charm, and then of course there is the food... Even their grilled bread is memorable! But before I get carried away let's just say that the food, from the mezes to fish and seafood, is very good; which in the end is the real reason we keep coming back after all regardless of its more distant location and lack of a view!
(*Recommended: Rice with mussels as an appetizer)
OCCASION: Lunch, dinner or any time between when it's calmer! As a couple or large group.
ENVIRONMENT: Although there is quite a vast seating capacity it's recommended to reserve. And make sure it's outside whatever the season as the outside is pretty much all covered in the winter and like being indoors but the real indoors is stuffy and scant. You have the option between smoking and smoking-free areas outside (speaking for when the weather requires the outdoors areas to be closed or partially closed).
AMBIANCE: Normally crowded so a little loud even if outdoors. Everyone from couples to large groups, tourists and locals to business dinners.
STYLE: As you feel comfortable; no need to dress up or down.
LOCATION: Cankurtaran, Istanbul
